Read Proverbs 6:16-19 Most of the time when we think about God we focus on ideas like love, peace, and grace. We understand that God doesn't just love but He is love. Today's verse that we will focus on highlights a different aspect of this God of love. Proverbs 6:16 says, "There are 6 things that God hates, seven that are an abomination to Him." This is a strong statement. Nevertheless, it only makes sense that if He is a being of love that this love would require that He hates as well. Love creates the capacity to hate evil.

Haughty eyes
A lying tongue
Hands that shed innocent blood
A heart that devises wicked plans
Feet that make haste to run to evil
A false witness who breathes out lies
One who sows discord among brothers.
There are a couple of things that are important to notice. First of all, the writer Solomon uses body parts to describe all but one of the evils. Eyes, tongues hands, heart, feet, and lungs. In other words, it takes full commitment to participate in this kind of deplorable behavior. It is that place that a person has calculated inwardly long enough that s/he is willing to take action physically.
The second important point we must consider is that these actions are oftem harmful to another human being. I believe this is why God hates it. He sees in each of us His image. And when we hurt one another, it opposes His desire for us. We were created to experience good,
not evil. Sin introduced a reality that none of us were designed for.
God hates pride, lying, injustice, wicked schemes, evil pursuits, false witnesses, and division. Let's work together to fight against these evils that God hates.
