Living life inevitably leads to hurts, wounds, and offenses. All of us are susceptible to being wounded by people. Sin passes on from one person to the next because of the original choice of earth's first father. Through his lineage, a sinful nature is a reality with which all of us must grapple. As a result, it seems natural to be selfish, to fight with one another, and to strive for our own personal benefits. But, when we accept Christ something happens inside us.
2 Corinthians 5:17 says, "If any man is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has gone and everything becomes new." As a Christian, we have a new capacity and new option for life that we did not have before. Before, it was natural for us to sin. After Christ, it is now in our nature to love, to do good, and to serve others. The only caveat is that our old nature, our sinful nature is still present within us.
Let me restate this. Before you were enslaved to sin. You had no option but to express your sinfulness. After accepting Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you are made free. You are free to love. You are free to do good. You are free to choose life. You are free to be a servant of righteousness rather than a servant of sin. Which way will you take today?
